HOW TO PLAY
My biggest gripe towards sports video games is that they become to stagnant. You often see the same game being sold year after year with minimal changes. Because of this, I found myself skipping out on sports games; Madden 20 was the first Madden I purchased in over 5 years. Madden has been around for over 20 years and this is definitely the most excited I have been for a sports game in a very long time. The main reason for this is Madden’s The Yard game mode. This is Madden’s attempt at a game mode similar to The Neighborhood from NBA 2K. This mode is 6 vs 6 and has its own set of backyard rules similar to NFL Street.
My favorite feature is that you have a customizable character where you can earn cred to pay for gear, and you can earn rep to stand out in the Madden Community. You even have the ability to transfer this character over to the mobile version. My expectations are not super high for the first go-round at this. 2K’s The Neighborhood is far from perfect, but Madden has the potential to fill in these gaps and take online sports gaming to a new level.
Besides The Yard, Madden 21 features improved defense mechanics with the introduction of the Defensive Skill Stick; there are also improvements to the Ball Carrier Skill Stick that Madden players should already be familiar with.
The other features include: Rise to Fame Mode, Madden Ultimate Team (MUT), and 50 new Superstar and X-Factor abilities. The real NFL will also have more of an influence in the game with Live Playbooks 2.0 that updates as new plays are utilized in the real NFL season.
Madden NFL 21 will be available August 25th. Will you be grabbing this Madden? What is your favorite Madden Era? Let us know in the comments below!
